“If you tame me, then we shall need each other. To me, you will be unique in all the world. To you, I shall be unique in all the world.”
-The Little Prince
I had the absolute honor of photographing this mother/son shoot for Kelly + Milo back in early November just as the season was changing and winter was on its way. They wanted to capture the essence of childhood magic & make-believe with a deep, woodsy, and wonder-filled shoot sprinkled with allllllll the feral/lost boy vibes and I am absolutely in LOVE with what we pulled together.
This was only my 2nd time creatively photographing a child, and while the perfectionist in me may already have had preconceived grand ideas and poses, I was quickly reminded that the key to beautiful photos with children is *play*. After all, that is truly what these shoots are about anyway— the invitation to play, to make believe, to be the character you would be in other worlds. So while I absolutely adore the still/posed shots we took, some of my favorite photos from this session are the ones of Milo just being Milo— wielding his toy sword, fighting invisible monsters, exploring the unknown, you can FEEL the pure essence of childhood pouring forth from the images we captured this day.
